How to Create a Landscape Design

One way to determine the average cost of landscaping design is to use the hourly rate. A landscape designer typically charges $50 to $150 per hour. Well-known experts with excellent design skills and years of experience cost more. Most landscape professionals include a not-to-exceed amount in the contract to reassure clients about the final cost.

Use a layering system with lots of low-growing plants to fill in under your taller plants, and cover the entire ground. These may be grasses, perennials, or groundcovers of other kinds. For our yard, we knew we wanted an outdoor dining area, and we knew we wanted a place to gather with friends around a fire pit. So you start with the functions, and then you work with the site and the site conditions in terms of the best places to carry those functional spaces out. I always tell my students to get away from their desks when they can.

I’m not going to talk about it too much today but it’s basically a Native-American way of planting corn and beans and squash together. I’m going to put that in here and I’m going to make it a little more interesting with some other parts that maybe they would have used too like sunflowers and cleome – if I can find them and if I have the time. A much better process is to figure out your goals and do some designing first and a whole bunch of things are going to work out better if you do that. First very important step is to set some goals, and it doesn’t have to be a big process you could do it in 5 or 10 minutes if you’re in a rush, but there are 3 parts to this and the first part is the look and feel.

How Can You Achieve the Perfect Front Yard Landscaping?

Note the topography, showing which locations are sloped, sunny, or shaded (don’t forget to make a note of sun and wind patterns). The southern or southeastern face of your house provides warming rays in winter and sun all day in summer. In regions where you can spend time outside year-round, these are perfect locations for sitting areas, since they’re protected from harsh northwestern winds.

And changes beyond the scope of the project can take up to 1-2 weeks to design and complete. If you’ve accurately expressed your needs and budget during the design phase, the decision phase will be much shorter. By this time you should have all of the information you need to make a decision about your build. Insist on a comprehensive written contract that documents all responsibilities, nature of proposed work, installation standards, costs, timelines, terms of payments and guarantees. Check the qualifications, professional accreditations and memberships that the landscaping company may claim to have.
